چکیده

We address the problem of coupling 1D St-Venant equations (Shallow Water) with 2D ones, as applied to floodplain flows (river hydraulics). Continuous coupling conditions are derived, while numerical coupling is done using optimal control processes. In a variationnal data assimilation context, this approach allows to couple both models and assimilate data simultaneously. Two different versions of Joint Assimilation Coupling algorithms are proposed and compared. Numerical results show the potentialities of algorithms proposed.

On a 2D ’zoom’ for the 1D shallow water model: coupling and data assimilation

In the context of river hydraulics we elaborate the idea of a ’zoom’ model locally superposed on an open-channel network global model. The zoom model (2D shallow water equations) describes additional physical phenomena, which are not represented by the global model (1D shallow water equations with storage areas). Both models are coupled using the optimal control approach when the zoom model is ...

Coupling superposed 1D and 2D shallow-water models: source terms and finite volume schemes

We study the superposition of 1D and 2D shallow-water equations with non-flat topographies, in the context of river flood modeling. Since we superpose both models in the bidimensional areas, we focus on the definition of the coupling term required in the 1D equations. Using explicit finite volume schemes, we propose a definition of the discrete coupling term leading to schemes globally well-bal...

On variational data assimilation for 1D and 2D fluvial hydraulics

We address two problems related to variational data assimilation (VDA) as applied to river hydraulics (1D and 2D shallow water models). In real cases, available observations are very sparse (especially during flood events). Generally, they are very few measures of elevation at gauging stations. The first goal of the present study is to estimate accurately some parameters such as the inflow disc...

A comparative study of 1D and 2D approaches for simulating flows at right angled dividing junctions

This paper widens insight on the comparison between 1D and 2D approaches when simulating flow division at a 90 open-channel junction. For the 1D simulation, existing models regarding this issue are, on the one hand, of empirical nature and depend on the flow regime, thus not practical in the unsteady case. On the other hand, theoretical dividing models are strongly nonlinear, thus do not guaran...
